Website accessibility

We have taken every care to design our website to make it as accessible as possible to all users. We are aware that many users find it hard to read/view websites in certain situations so have taken measures that will hopefully make our site easy to use and to access by the majority of visitors to it.

Our site has been designed to work effectively across various browsers and computer systems and comes with a range of features to promote accessibility. For example, we use the ‘alt text’ command that gives a text outline of any images that we use on site. We also use text that can be easily resized. This allows users to make text size bigger or smaller so that they can read it more easily.

In addition, we have tried to ensure that all of our web pages are printer friendly. This will allow you to print off individual or multiple pages when you want to refer to our site information offline more easily. Our pages will print on a standard print and paper size specification.

Whilst we have tried to take a variety of measures to promote accessibility of access to all of our potential visitors this may be an ongoing project in some cases. It is difficult to meet every need of the visually impaired when it comes to website access, for example. We are striving to create an ideal scenario with this but it may take time for further improvements to be integrated on to the site and some may not be achievable.

We are, however, committed to looking at site accessibility as an ongoing project. Our aim is to make our site fully accessible to as many people as possible. In the meantime, the BBC’s My Web, My Way website may be a useful source of information. This site helps users to ‘tweak’ their computers to help them get better accessibility options when they are using the Internet and the tips given here may also be useful to those with accessibility issues.
